According to Fadhley, "IronPython could be a massive landgrab by Microsoft into the domain of traditional Unix scripting."Recently Microsoft released IronPython 1.0 Beta 1, which allows all .Net libraries to be easily accessed by Python programmers, are they planning to add IronPython support to its Visual Studio tools suite ?
Microsoft's support for Python could help the software giant to attract Unix developers to the Windows platform, as it is a commonly used scripting language on the Unix platform. Fadhley said, "If Microsoft embraces Python, it could be a big draw for Unix hackers--if our favorite language was supported as a first-tier language by a major software vendor, it would be a major draw to Windows. At the moment, most Python developers hack on Mac and Linux ."
They have not yet declared about the final release of IronPython 1.0 but the project team said there are unlikely to be more than 10 beta releases.
The support of IT Giants like Microsoft (With the release of IronPython 1.0 Beta 1), Google (Guido joined Google), no doubt Python has a bright future.
Its cool and will work in Mono to, no hassles. Perhaps with .net and gtk, wxpython libs etc. we can write once run pretty fast (he he) anywhere. The mono apps on linux look really good - I need to do more digging but appears a +ve thing
About time - not a fan but I think MS have done well here.

I can't say much about the draw

I'm no fan of Microsoft and its practices in the marketplace, but I'm not worried about them adopting my favorite open-source programming language (and I use that word deliberately, as Python is not just for

People are nothing but good idea thieves, thus i agree that when the door is left open (via IronPython) that people will come inside and take a look around. If they like what they see (.NET, BCL, WCF, PCF, true language integration, etc..) they will take it when they leave!

I doubt it will attract more than a small percentage of *nix hackers.
But, it sure is great news if you have to program using .NET.

Are you kidding? There will be few and far between who are going to give up Linux just to hack IronPython with .NET.
