ActiveGrid has decided to contribute in the Jython project to make ActiveGrid LAMP applications easier to deploy within companies. The company has made updates to the Jython project to have Python applications run on the Java virtual machine.

"The reason ActiveGrid made contributions to the Jython project was to make ActiveGrid LAMP applications easier to deploy within companies. What happens now is that you have developers living in their own tools? Now with Jython, we can host the Python application in a Java server as a peer" said CEO Peter Yared.

JPython was created in late 1997 by Jim Hugunin, so its there since last 10 years. If you are a Jython developer then you must have observed the movements in the Jython world, Jython website is not updated since almost one year. ActiveGrid's interest in Jython might help in promoting the language.

Actually, the new website (http://www.jython.org) went live June 1st. Although I agree that Jython had languished for a while, a new maintainer (Frank Wierzbicki) took over this year. Since then, there's been progress towards a version of Jython with CPython 2.3 features.
