Great opportunity for Python student developers at Google Summer of Code 2007
The Google Summer of Code is an annual program first held during the summer of 2005. It's a program that helps student developers to create new open source programs.

The goal of this program is to get university students familiar with open-source software development by working on a summer-long coding project. Participants not only have an opportunity to work on a challenging project, but also receive a stipend of $4500!
Translate java code into python source code using java2python tool
java2python claims to be a simple but effective tool to translate Java source code into Python source code. Troy Melhase, the creator of the java2python project has announced the first release.

java2python is licensed under the GNU General Public License 2.0. To translate code, java2python requires python 2.5, ANTLR and PyANTLR.
Jython beta with all features of version 2.2 released
Jython is a Java implementation of the Python language. It allows users to compile Python source code to Java bytecodes, and run the resulting bytecodes on any Java Virtual Machine. Jython community has announced the release of Jython 2.2's first beta version. This release contains all of the major features for a 2.2 release.
Web Services for SOAP HTTP-XML and HTTP-JSON with TGWebServices
TurboGears founder Kevin Dangoor has announced the release of TGWebServices, a multiprotocol web services toolkit for TurboGears. TGWebServices provides a super simple API for creating web services that are available via SOAP, HTTP->XML, and HTTP->JSON.
Shortage of Ruby speakers for RUPY conference
The RUPY (Ruby & Python) conference will be held at Adam Mickiewicz University, Poland on 14th and 15th April 2007. The deadline for submitting talk proposals was 31st December 2006 but due to noticeable shortage of Ruby talks proposal, organizers have postponed the deadline for submitting talk proposals. The deadline for submitting talk proposals has been moved to 28th of February.

Why developers go in the direction of ROR? is it over hyped?

Once I learned about Python, I stopped trying out different languages
It's hard to believe that Pearu Peterson doesn't have any computer background. He has a Masters degree in Natural Sciences and a PhD in studying interactions of water waves. But he is also the author of  F2PY (Fortran to Python Interface generator)  and has contributed to various Python based scientific computing tools like, SciPy, GiNaC and GMPY. He is also involved in the Python numpy.distutils package.

TurboGears is equivalent to Ruby on Rails!

Ohio LinuxFest 2006 is taking place on September 30, 2006. Ohio is a free Linux event for professionals and enthusiasts. Spliced Networks announced that it will exhibit at Ohio LinuxFest 2006 in booth #6. At this event, Mark Ramm of TurboGears, will be a guest at the booth. Spliced Networks said, "TurboGears is the equivalent of “Ruby on Rails”, for the Python programming language."

Django web development and Java Portlets on 30th September.
Pune Python meet organized by PythonThreads.com is scheduled on 30th September.
